It appears that Fortnite will not be returning to iPhones and iPads anytime soon. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney stated on Wednesday that Apple informed him that Fortnite would not be allowed on Apple devices until the legal appeals process was completed, which could take years.

A year-long struggle between Apple and Epic over the App Store's operation came to a conclusion earlier this month when a federal judge ruled in favor of the iPhone maker. The judge dismissed the majority of Apple's arguments, but she did order the corporation to allow developers to tell consumers of alternate payment methods within apps. On September 12, Epic filed a notice of appeal.
The conflict began in August 2020, when Fortnite was removed from both the App Store and the Google Play Store for seeking to avoid the 30% fee that Apple and Google charge developers. The popular battle royale game had been downloaded over 250 million times on iOS alone at the time.
